#MoveForStJude, move for you.

Grateful. Thankful. Blessed. It is crazy to think that 2 months ago, I started this blog as a place where I could document all of the wonderful new experiences I was having since beginning of what I thought was a “health” journey.  I swam, biked and ran through my first triathlon and was so inspired by the amazing athletes who were out there with me. I didn’t talk to many people as we raced (because obviously I was sucking wind) so I didn’t get to know anyone, but I do vividly remember everyone. I remember their bodies: they came in different sizes, shapes and weight. Bodies that had been through a courageous battle and came back slightly altered but still beautiful and perhaps stronger. Bodies that were on a transformation journey. Bodies that were alive and working. And it was at that moment that I realized how grateful I was to be in such amazing company. How thankful I was to have decided to participate in that triathlon. How blessed I was for my own body. Every day that I …

Just Tri a Photo Shoot

They’re here! They’re here! This past Sunday, Steven and I cruised into DC to meet my very talented uncle and his beautiful family for a morning photo shoot followed by a delicious DC brunch. My Uncle Mike, or UnKO as I’ve come to call him, has always been an amazing photographer (and uncle). As a child, he would always linger around important (and unimportant) events behind the lens of a camera, capturing priceless moments through his art. No matter how awkward we were, UnKo Mike always improved our look through his amazing vision and editing skills. Our family photos were gorgeous. Our homecoming photos always looked like magazine ads, even if they were for nasty glittery dresses or shiny silver braces. Anyways, here are some of the finished products! This was my first blog shoot (as I’m sure my awkward faces will show you) but it definitely won’t be the last. We chose the Lincoln memorial as a meeting place which ended up being a great place to shoot. My uncle scouted out a few places with …

To Cheese or not to Cheese…

There is something about working out with a bunch of sweaty strangers that brings me some weird sense of happiness, and this past week, I was very happy. After running across a very helpful website, I was able to workout with some great people and try a few new classes in the D.C area, for free. It took some serious motivation (a few 5 AM wake-ups) and a lot of hard work but I ended the week feeling awesome and ready to continue my journey tri-ing new experiences. So let’s talk about that very helpful website called Active Life DC. Like everything else worth reading on the internet, I found this site on Facebook. It is a great resource that lays out free classes going on all over D.C , hiking trails for the weekend and elaborates on more specific categories like running clubs and yoga under $10. Will you be able to make every class? No. Will the events being advertised be conveniently happening near you? Maybe not, but it gives you a great scope of all the health and wellness resources all …

The Chillest “Meal Prep” Ever

Doesn’t meal-prep always look amazing?       You see these beautiful pictures of carefully crafted dishes portioned off perfectly into a sea of matching tupperware and packed away into the fridge, like little presents, for a week of home cooked, easily accessible goodness. Well, heads up, this post is NOT going to look like that. If you know me, which I presume you do as my current blog audience are mostly friends/family who are kind enough to indulge my hobby (hi mom!), you KNOW that I could never do that pristine meal prep deal. I barely have 2 tupperware containers that have their original lids. Regardless, I think that I’ve figured out some secrets to successful meal “prep” and thought I would share. So who am I, the lady with 1.5 complete sets of tupperware, to tell you some tips around the subject? Here are my current credentials: In 39 days: I have spent 224.65 cents on food (not counting a 4 meals out for special occasions) coming out to around 1.50 a meal I have …

Ghosts of Costumes Past

And just like that, Halloween has come and gone. It is so sad. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays solely because I love making costumes. When I was a kid, my mom instilled in me that home-made costumes were the only way to go. Back then, I don’t think I appreciated it. I wanted the full on cinderella dresses or lion king costume from Party City but my mom always made me a version that, now looking back, was WAY better than anything I could have bought (THANKS MOM!). As I’ve gotten older, I have embraced costume making. Check out some of my favorites from the years past… This year’s costume was inspired by a video I watched that tugged so hard at my heart strings. It is of an old couple playing a duet of Pixar’s UP theme song. This movie is one of my favorites and makes me cry every time I watch it so naturally, I asked Steven if we could be Russell and Mr Fredrickson and he said yes! He …
